Department of Botany

Program

The Department of Botany offers a comprehensive undergraduate programme leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Botany. The course is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in plant sciences, enabling them to understand plant diversity, structure, functions, and ecological significance.

The programme emphasizes scientific knowledge, analytical thinking, and practical skills through the systematic study of plant biology, ecology, genetics, physiology, and environmental science.

It incorporates theoretical learning along with practical exposure such as laboratory experiments, field visits, herbarium preparation, project work, seminars, and presentations, enabling students to connect scientific concepts with real-world environmental and agricultural applications.

The curriculum introduces students to plant taxonomy, plant physiology, ecology, genetics, biotechnology, and research methodology, helping them develop the ability to analyze plant systems, understand biodiversity, and conduct scientific investigations.

Throughout the programme, students are encouraged to build laboratory skills, observational abilities, environmental awareness, and research aptitude, which are essential for higher education and professional careers in science, research, agriculture, and environmental management.

Programme Highlights:
• Study of Plant Diversity, Taxonomy, and Physiology
• Introduction to Ecology, Genetics, and Biotechnology
• Hands-on Training in Laboratory Techniques and Field Work
• Practical Exposure through Projects, Herbarium, and Field Surveys
• Continuous Internal Assessment and University Examination System

Admission Criteria: Candidates seeking admission to the B.Sc. Botany programme must have successfully passed the Higher Secondary Examination (12th / HSC) with Science stream or its equivalent from a recognized board. Admission is granted strictly as per university rules and government regulations.
