Department of Chemistry

Program

The Department of Chemistry offers comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate programmes leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Chemistry. The courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in chemical sciences, enabling them to understand the composition, structure, properties, and transformations of matter.

The programmes emphasize scientific knowledge, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills through the systematic study of organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry.

They incorporate theoretical learning along with extensive practical exposure such as laboratory experiments, instrumental analysis, project work, seminars, industrial visits, and research-based activities, enabling students to apply chemical concepts to real-world industrial and environmental challenges.

The curriculum introduces students to organic, inorganic, physical chemistry, analytical techniques, spectroscopy, environmental chemistry, and research methodology, helping them develop the ability to analyze chemical systems and conduct scientific investigations.

Throughout the programmes, students are encouraged to build laboratory skills, precision, safety awareness, research aptitude, and critical thinking, which are essential for higher education and professional careers in science, industry, and research.

Programme Highlights:
• Study of Organic, Inorganic, Physical & Analytical Chemistry
• Introduction to Spectroscopy, Environmental & Industrial Chemistry
• Hands-on Training in Laboratory Techniques & Instrumentation
• Practical Exposure through Projects, Industrial Visits & Research Work
• Continuous Internal Assessment and University Examination System

Admission Criteria:
For B.Sc. Chemistry: Candidates must have successfully passed the Higher Secondary Examination (12th / HSC) with Science stream or its equivalent from a recognized board.
For M.Sc. Chemistry: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related discipline from a recognized university. Admission is granted as per university rules and government regulations.
